Translation : Ghislaine and Patrick Santoro

I work on simultaneous series, not successive series.

The last series is based on what happened in Paris in 2015. It is called Appalled, I wonder how to watch all this?

The common theme of these series is to make a point stand out among others: it can be a set of raw wooden squares in a group of black squares Topography or a few commas in the middle of other punctuation signs Sparrows.

My most elaborate series is Metempsychosis of Bouchons. The ‘Bouchons’ refer to the layer of paint or varnish which hardens when a can of paint is left uncapped. These elements are meaningful as they are a link to my father’s job (construction painter). They allow a large array of variations – squirts, streaks, drops and distortions. They allow me to play with the whole canvas regarding its background and other various artistic echoes. They also introduce uncertainty in spectators’ appreciations (viewed from atop, full-face or sideways).

I always love to watch the stars in the sky. Stardust is dedicate to this sensation.

My works are born in the pleasure of natural gestures. Canvasses are laid on the floor and my works are the results of spontaneous gestures as is the case in a more figurative series called Silhouettes.

I was born in Villejuif in 1957. Today, I live and work in Ile de France.

I have always had a hand in art as I first participated in a painting competition in 1966, aged 9. I gave and took drawing, painting and modeling lessons. I am captivated by art history and a frequent visitor at exhibitions, galleries and take classes at l’Ecole du Louvre.
